Picture
Zoe Schlussel is violinist, fiddler, educator, and ergonomics specialist who is driven by a passion for finding the ways that traditional folk music and improvisatory musical traditions can inform, enrich, and free the minds and bodies of classical musicians, students, and audiences. Her classical performance positions have included the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Southwest Michigan Symphony, Apollo Festival Orchestra, and InConcert Sierra Orchestra. She also served as Concertmaster with the University Symphony Orchestra at Western Michigan University. She has taught violin at Western Michigan University while appointed Graduate Assistant to Professor Renata Artman Knific as well as at Crescendo Academy of Music in Kalamazoo, MI and Vesper School of Music in Portland, OR. Alongside this, Zoe runs her own online teaching studio business, Zoe Schlussel Music.

Zoe completed her Master of Music Degree in Violin Performance at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI as Graduate Assistant to Professor Renata Artman Knific in 2018. In 2015 she received her Bachelor of Music Degree from University of the Pacific where she studied under scholarship with Professor Igor Veligan and Dr. Ann Miller. She has participated in solo masterclasses with violinists such as Anne Akiko-Meyers, Chee-Yun Kim, Jennifer Frautschi, Dylana Jenson, Elena Urioste, and in chamber masterclasses with Kontras Quartet and Trio Settecento, among others. In addition, she has performed in summer festivals such SD Festival, Hawaii Performing Arts, Opera Maya, and Villa Symphonia. She has also studied privately with Chee-Yun Kim, Zino Bogachek, and Clara Takarabe.
In addition to her classical accomplishments, Zoe has studied Scottish fiddle with master fiddlers from across countries and traditions such as Alasdair Fraser, Darol Anger, Bruce Molskey, Kevin Henserson, and Anders Hall. She serves on faculty at Alasdair Fraser’s Sierra Fiddle Camp and was volunteer faculty at Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle School this summer as a fiddle instructor and ergonomics specialist. In addition to these positions, Ms. Schlussel runs her own fiddle camps for classical violin studios to help classical students and teachers access new levels of groove and expression through the study of Traditional music. From her time in recording studios, Zoe appears on Honey of the Heart’s most recent singles, 5000 Souls and Arriving, as well as Della Sandoli’s album Seasons. Zoe also serves as Concertmaster for the indie music chamber ensembles Current Personae Chamber and JoDavi Orchestra as well as Sierra Stages Theater.
